organizing physical space
What is it?
Component 2E deals with the importance of the organization of a classroom. It is easiest for a student to learn in an organized space, and when all of the tools are neatly arranged in order, as this way, they are all easily accessible to the teacher, resulting in an efficient teaching and learning environment.
Why is it important?
This is important, because the classroom needs to be a safe place for all students. The classroom must be a place in which the students feel emotionally and physically secure, so that they can be vulnerable enough to grow. The students need to also be able to navigate the room on their own, and understand the layout so that they can get around and learn well as individuals.
What are the elements?
The first element of Component 2E is Safety and Accessibility. The classroom must be available for all students to use, even students with disabilities. The order and setup of a room must not be a hindrance to the learning environment.
The second element of Component 2E is the Arrangement of Furniture and Physical Resources. Every tool in the classroom must be available to the teacher and to the students. The setup of the room must also be arranged in a way that furthers the learning atmosphere, rather than hindering it.
What are some artifacts?
Some artifacts that would demonstrate Component 2A include a sample room arrangement chart that shows forethought and insight, a Pinterest board with lists of ideas that the teacher has thought about as inspiration, and the actual, successfully set up classroom itself.
