remind
Description:
This notification tool was created using the Remind service. I simply created an account, added students to my class, and started posting announcements!
In order to get the families of my future students involved in remind, I will invite them to the group, and set that to go to their email, then send a note home, instructing them how to accept the invitation, and what I will communicate using that. I will get the students involved during a set time in the class.
This is an artifact of Component 4C because it is an instant, effective means of communication. The teacher can use this to communicate with all of the families and students at once, as soon as she needs to. This is specifically Engagement of Families in the Instructional Program, because the teacher can use this to make sure that all of the families are on the same page, and know what is going on in the classroom, and how to help.

Reflection:
Working with this tool has gone well because it is a way to quickly communicate with students in a relevant, yet professional setting. It is also beneficial that the notifications come from the site, and not from the teacher's personal phone number or email.
Something that I would change for my classroom is the content of the messages. I would be more confident in my communicating, as I would take charge of the messages, and have a set reason for every announcement, rather than to remind classmates of projects. I would also appreciate if Remind had a personalized chatting feature, so that a struggling student could chat one-on-one with the teacher.
As in Foundations of Teaching, it is vital for the teacher to show the students that he cares about them, and wants to see them succeed. One way that he can do this is by using tools, such as Remind, that are geared toward the students' interests, and make him available to the students even out of school.
I can use this tool in my future classrooms to give reminders, updates, last-minute adventures, and help and feedback. With younger students, I can use Remind to unobtrusively stay in contact with parents, and make sure that they understand how to help the students with their homework, and how to prepare them for class. I can also keep the families involved in the classroom by giving them schoolroom updates, and announcements for parent assistant days coming up.
