kahoot!
The Kahoot.it website is a formative assessment tool that has been known to be engaging to all students in a classroom. The teacher uses this site to create a quiz in the form of a game that all of the students play. Once the teacher is ready, the game can be activated, and the students compete to answer the most questions quickly and correctly. At the end of the game, the winner is recognized, and the students can be rewarded if the teacher sees fit.
This resource works well, as it rarely leaves the teacher with inaccurate information, as nearly every student is motivated to do his best, and do well in the game. From the results of the game, especially on a question-by-question basis, the teacher can see which questions the students know the answers to, and which ones need to be reviewed.
In order to create this quiz, I created an account and began to create my quiz. After it was completed, I made it live, and found the code for the students to enter to access the quiz. After that code was entered, the student had access to the game, and could complete with her classmates. The teacher receives the data from the questions following each question. The screen at the front of the classroom displays the correct answer, and how many students selected that option. At the end of the quiz, the teacher sees which student won, which would presumably be very close to which student knew the most about the content.
This artifact fits into Monitoring of Student learning in Component 4D of the Danielson Framework, as the teacher can see what the students already know, what needs to be reviewed, and how much time and effort needs to be taken on this review.
This tool is exciting and engaging, as each student is motivated in a healthy competition to do his best, and win the game. In my future classroom, I would model this tool more to what my specific students were learning about, thus more what I would be comfortable teaching. Then I would use this to create brief review quizzes that can be easily accessed, and do not take away from the lesson.
This tool ties into Educational Psychology, as the students are motivated to work hard, and learn their best, then show the teacher what they know.
*Note: In order to play my Kahoot quiz, search Public Kahoots, "EstherReem" and it should be the only result to come up.
